"I decided I wanted to give him my love and a place to call home for the rest of his life. I didn't know if he had weeks, months, or years left in him, but I plan to make the rest of his life... the best of his life! Such a sweet old gentle soul, I named him Grandpaw. I went to the shelter and picked him up the next evening. He was very anxious and unsure of everything! Losing his family and his fur brother. It broke my heart when we were walking out of the shelter. Grandpaw laid down in front of the door that led back to the kennels where his brother was still waiting to be picked up, and wouldn't move. Made me so sad! He wasn't familiar with any of his new surroundings... didn't really seem to know what to do at all. Bless his old furry heart! Anytime I'd reach down to rub his head, he'd cower. I'm not sure really what kind of life he'd had over his many years... seemed to me like not much interaction with people? I don't think he'd spent much time inside because he didn't explore the house or anything. He stayed in the living room for the first 3 days. Luckily he picked up on using the doggie door quickly! By day 4, he was pushing his limits a little more and moving around the house a bit. After some time his quirky personality started coming out. He loves treats and loves to eat! Even though he was a bit more comfortable, he still seemed somewhat anxious. He would pace inside the house and in the backyard, I was able to watch him on my home cameras while away. I thought maybe he was missing his fur brother. So about a month later, I adopted another pup. Enter Keanu! About 3-4 years old approx the same age as his other brother. Initial introduction didn't go as I'd hoped, but we've managed to work through the bumps. And now here we are 4.5 months later."

"Marcie...I work at the Humane Society of Stillwater. One day I came into work to see Marcie sitting in our office. She had been adopted from our facility over 10 years ago. Her owner was going into assisted living and could no longer keep her. None of the lady's children stepped up to take in Marcie who was 12 years old at the time. So, their only option was to bring her back to the shelter. When Marcie came in, she weighed 99 pounds and could barely stand up on her own or walk. Upon seeing our vet, we discovered she was in liver failure, and with the condition she was in, we didn’t think she’d make it through the weekend. Marcie was showing extreme aggression towards other dogs, so none of my coworkers were able to take her home. I at the time, had no other dogs and actually lived in a place where I wasn’t allowed to have pets.
I decided to bite the bullet and take this girl home anyway. I hated the thought of her potentially passing away in a kennel at the shelter by herself. If anything, she would be in the comfort of my home and not be alone. After taking Marcie home, I started taking her on walks to try and help her become more mobile!! Flash forward a year and a half later… Marcie is still kicking it!!
She’s 15 pounds lighter, very mobile and active for now being 13 years old!! She is happy as can be, having a secure home and no longer being alone and scared… her aggression has gone away completely!! I have since moved into my own place, where she’s allowed to stay with me!! Her days consist of laying around the house and taking lots of naps with my other dog Bella. And chasing my cats around the house!! When Marcie first entered my life, I only anticipated to know her for maybe a couple weeks. I couldn’t be more grateful that we have had a year and a half together. She’s my best friend and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I’m trying my best to cherish her for the last little bit of her life!

“My sweet Zoey girl came into my life in the summer of 2009 when my daughter, Brittany, brought her home unexpectedly. Brittany has always been a huge animal lover and was ecstatic that she got a ‘free’ puppy from someone in the Walmart parking lot! Before she brought the puppy home, she made sure to buy all of the basic necessities for a puppy - in hopes that I wouldn’t be upset with her for bringing a puppy home without permission. Brittany proudly walked in to the house and presented the ‘free’ puppy with all of the puppy supplies. I immediately told her to take the puppy back to where she got it! I then proceeded to tell her that there is no such thing as a “free” dog and that I was not at a point in my life where I could make that type of commitment. Brittany said that she couldn’t take her back because the lady she got her from said that her husband had been abusing the puppies. I explained that I was sure that the lady was just telling her that to make people feel sorry for the puppies and increase her chances of getting rid of them. With my insistence, Brittany took the puppy back to Walmart, but the lady was no longer there. Once Brittany returned home, I told her that she would need to find the puppy a new home.
As the days went by, I realized that the puppy, (now named Zoey), was exactly what I needed in my life. She was a blessing in disguise. She was beautiful and happy. She was smart and attentive - I never even had to potty train her. She was so full of life and had so much love to give. She became my baby - I even carried her around on my hip like you do a baby. As the years have gone by, Zoey has been more than just a dog. She is my companion, my happy place, my “you don’t have to say a word, I gotcha mom” kind of love. Zoey became my emotional support animal. We have been on many flights and have traveled all over Europe together. Zoey has experienced more in her short life than most humans will in their entire life. I will be lost without Zoey by my side.
Recently, I noticed a lump on Zoey’s underside. After many vet appointments, the vet and I decided that Zoey could benefit from an exploratory surgery. The surgery took place on June 29th and that is when we discovered that my beautiful girl had cancer. Unfortunately, her stomach and liver are riddled with many tumors and there is no way to safely remove them. My heart breaks knowing that I cannot do anything to make her better. All that I can do now is keep her comfortable and give her everything that she deserves. By now, I’m sure that you can see that Zoey is more than just my dog, she is my world. I don’t know how much time my beautiful girl has left on this earth, but I will cherish every moment and thank God that that he chose me to be her momma!”

My grandpa would sit on the porch drinking his coffee with her in his lap and he’d save a little at the bottom of the cup for her and his other dog sissy to drink. My grandma was the one that did all the grooming and vet visits etc to make sure the pups were taken care of. My grandma had leukemia and passed away within 6 months. Then my grandpa was diagnosed with small sickle cell lung cancer. The only thing he ever cried about was what would happen to sissy and Tilly. I said I’d take care of them and fill their lives full of adventure, happiness, and love. That’s all he needed to know and he went on to pass comfortably. Since then, I got a dog stroller for the littles, and we’ve set out on Airbnb getaway adventures. They have been to so many state parks, car rides, swimming, all the new smells their little heart desires. I have a booster seat in the truck so she can look out at the world on our adventures. Tilly is truly a blessing not only to me and my life but to anyone who meets her. The groomer says she’s never had a dog wag their tail the entire way through. Tilly loves food!!!! She’s a little rolley Polley and she’s loved beyond measure and there will never be another like her."

While looking on the website for the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter and I spotted this adorable pup with the most scared sad eyes I have ever seen. I went down there and was directed to this tiny white pup that was in a large kennel by himself. The floor was wet and he was curled up in a ball in the middle of the wet floor, the site broke my heart. He was so scared he would not come to me. I went in and picked him up. He was terrified and shook horribly. I had already decided if he was not aggressive he was coming home with me. There was no way I was leaving those sad eyes there. I sat down and held him for 30 minutes until he stopped shaking then it was time to go home. The best $25 I have ever spent. Since then Dudley was a great brother to Reno and the best watchdog I have ever had. Shortly after we moved into our home he wrestled an Opossum and won. Recently those sweet scared sad eyes no longer see but we are honored that he chooses us to care for him. We know he will join Reno before long at the Rainbow Bridge and there will be a huge void in our lives but we will remember the love and protection he gave us. We will look forward to the glorious reunion. Dud will always be in our hearts.”

She's calm, sweet, affectionate, and introverted at times. She LOVES food, car rides, walks, squeaky toys, more food, snuggles, and snacks.
She came into my life during an extremely difficult time. I was struggling severely with a panic disorder and she honestly saved my life. We bonded fast and fierce. She's been my ride or die ever since.
In October of last year, I took her to the vet because of a growth on her chest. They aspirated it and found that it was cancerous. Within two weeks of her diagnosis, it had more than doubled in size and it burst. She was scheduled for an emergency surgery on October 17th. We knew there was a high chance that it would come back because of its aggressive nature, and our personal nightmare is now happening. We don't have long. While I am devastated, I am so thankful for the time I've had with my sweet angel baby."

She loved to dig giant craters in the yard, not holes, I mean craters. This was her favorite past time until this past year as she has become less agile. She'd come in, face and paws covered in dirt, and was just so proud of her latest creation.
She has always been a cuddle bug and loved to lick you. She'd spend hours if you'd let her just licking on your feet and legs. She is definitely the Mama Bear of her fur family but cannot engage like she used to. The past year has definitely become tougher on her body. But boy, when I come home from work she is always at the door to greet me and runs back and forth through the kitchen leeping with excitement. I will miss these days when they are gone.” -Amanda Fietz

Since the beginning Lexi has stolen the show. I'll start with her name, Lexi Belle. The husband named her after a famous star... she was so famous that even the kid's 2nd-grade teacher knew her name (faceplant). She is so far from that, she is everything a lab is. Kind, loving, loyal, etc. She is truly my spirit animal wrapped up in chocolate. Lexi came into our home when our kids were old enough to bond with. When I asked for them to help with her story they reminded me of some of her best things. My Lexi loves, loves, LOVES ATV rides. She learned to ride at 6 months old and hasn't stopped. She loves camping (in the camper of course). She has had 11 puppies but has also helped care for over 40 (including her sister's). She is a mama. Lexi is loved by all who meet her. She is a pro at begging... all with a look she wants her way. She starts panting and just gets louder each minute. Talk about a bed hog, king-size is still not big enough. That tail can clean off a coffee table and wake you out of a dead sleep. So to just tell you her story...she really is a special family member, and the past year has been the hardest watching her slow down. She was almost put down because it was a bad week. Every day she's here is just one more day we count as the lucky ones. She was born on January 17, 2012 (11.5 years). Her name names are Lexi Loo, Mama's, Loo Loo, and Brat. All our love!"

So, we drove out to meet them and by the time we got there, there were only 2 puppies left. The lady put a puppy in my arms and the other puppy in my husband's arms. Right away, the puppy in my husband's arms started whining and shivering. But the puppy in my arms snuggled right up to me and fell asleep. We knew right away she was ours. She chose me. My girl has been my velcro dog ever since. When we lived in WA state we would go hiking all the time and bring her with. She absolutely loves being outdoors and going anywhere and everywhere with us. She is almost exactly one year younger than my daughter. My daughters birthday is 11/4 and Bella's is 11/10. She is my kids protector and my best friend. ❤ She had a large mass develop practically overnight on one of her mammary glands. She had surgery to remove it 2 weeks ago and got the results back on Friday. It's an extraskeletal osteosarcoma which is very aggressive and highly susceptible to metastases. We're currently waiting on word from the oncologist to know what our next steps need to be but it's not looking great."

I begged my mom millions of times for my own fur baby and finally one day she allowed me to get a fur baby. I knew that I wanted a miniature dachshund because I mean, c'mon the wiener jokes are the best....but I searched through the newspaper(probably a dead giveaway of her age. Lol) and eventually found the perfect listing for miniature dachshund puppies. I went and got the most perfect little pup on 07-08-09. She loves long naps in the sunshine, demolishing stuffed toys to get to the little plastic squeaker, exploring, car rides, snow in small doses, snuggling, & anything to do with food - Seriously she can hear a snack bag open from clear on the other side of the U.S.A. She is sweet, stubborn and full of attitude but also brave beyond comprehension and loyal to a fault. We've been through a lot together and she's never left my side nor have I left hers. She's been my only true "ride or die". She has been attacked by other large aggressive dogs on two different occasions and somehow miraculously managed to pull through(shout out to my mom and dad, David for helping with the vet bills. Literally couldn't have saved her without them). She's a fighter and I would like to think she got that from her fur momma. I will forever cherish deep in my heart the special moments captured by Burton Photography LLC."

I learned that he had been abused before we had him, and it was a very long process with lots of patience. It took 3 years for my husband, and I to touch him without him peeing on himself because he was so scared. It was very trying, but I told my husband that we can never give up because I believed in this dog. We gained his trust, and he has been the best dog ever. We drove an hour and a half away to pick him up and this poor pup was so scared and skinny. We quickly found out he was abused by his old owners. He was skittish of everyone and a fear biter. But he was TERRIFIED of men. So we learned to take it slow with him and get him accustomed to everyone before letting them come near him. He's been with us for the past 17 years though we're not sure exactly how old he was when we got him. He's getting very grey but will still act like a puppy every now and again."

We lived in Texas until 8 years ago when we moved to Oklahoma. Tarr and I have gone on many hunting, fishing and exploring adventures together, and have made some great memories together. I had a work injury 5 years ago and was hospitalized for a few months. When I was in the hospital that was the longest time we spent apart from each other. He helped me get through a rough and dark place in life. Tarr has helped me navigate through life now as an amputee.
Tarr celebrated his 12th birthday last October. Later that month, I was told by his veterinarian that he had cancer. He has had four surgeries to take out the parts of the cancer that they can without destroying his quality of life. I do not know how much longer I have with him; but I am going to enjoy the time we have together. My job now is to simply keep him comfortable; and show him how important he is to me. Tarr is not only my dog, I consider him my best friend."

He came into my life in January 2017 just a few weeks after my other dogs had passed away only months apart from each other. He truly healed my heart during a very difficult time and made my home not feel empty. He’s always up for going “somewhere” whether it’s the vet, post office, swim therapy, or just a drive around town. I always say he is a true Labrador Retriever with a broken retriever. He loves to “corral” the stray cats and squirrels at home and loves the water but don’t expect him to bring anything back to you. He’s handsome, silly, stubborn, and loving and it makes him the best dog I could have ever asked for. He was diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis and arthritis a few years ago and the arthritis has taken a toll on him. My once-speed rocket is no longer able to support himself on his hind legs or walk without assistance, but I couldn’t love him more."

"Prince came into my life in February of 2012. I was 23 and had moved cross-country from Washington to Texas 3 months prior to making a homestead in my boyfriend’s hometown nearer to his children while he was deployed. I was alone except for his family, and I felt like I had been thrown to the lions. Prince brought me comfort and companionship. The rescue had named him Prince William because he was left on their porch at 6 weeks old the same week William married Kate. For me, he is Prince, or Bill, or Dorkus Aurelius. He was heartworm-positive when I got him, and it took two years to clear that up. When that relationship ended and I came to Oklahoma, Prince again provided me with companionship when I was alone. Over the course of the next few years, he would donate blood at the vet hospital I worked at, saving multiple lives. In spring of 2023 he developed a large lump in his throat. The veterinary surgeon we used to work with did the tumor removal surgery on May. We didn’t do a cellular diagnosis, but based on location, mobility, and overall appearance the probability of it being a thyroid carcinoma was almost undeniable. He was given 6-18 months to live, and I’m just trying to enjoy the rest of our time together. Im hoping he makes it to his 13th birthday in February…
"Trouble joined our family a year after Prince did, when his previous owner asked me to adopt him because she was moving out of state and didn’t want to take him with her… Trouble and Prince act aloof to each other, but don’t tell anyone they also cuddle together. Trouble also donated blood, saving several kitty lives in the hospital. He cuddles more than Prince (and Prince gets so jealous). He comes when he’s called and thinks he’s a dog. My two grumpy old men have been partners in my life since 2013, and I know both will be devastated if the other passes first."

"Chunkers was found on the side of the road in Texas wounded with a BB bullet and long stab mark. He was taken to a local shelter, where he was pulled by a rescue. A family quickly adopted him but upon finding out they were pregnant 18 months later, decided that “dogs weren’t good for kids” and he was taken back to the rescue.
A friend saw his profile online and sent it to me. I saw him and immediately KNEW he was mine. The rescue let me know that he had a cough, but I was already familiar with collapsing trachea in Pomeranians, so it wasn’t an issue at all with me. So, I jumped in my car and drove 5.5 hours to Pleasant, Texas in the middle of the pandemic and picked up this guy from their volunteer in the parking lot of a Family Dollar, complete with social distancing and masks all around. He was immediately friendly and warm and played with his toy all the way home. After spending a few days with him, I realized he liked food. A LOT. He ate through 3 layers of a duffel bag to get to an empty snack-size wrapper of peanut M&M's, had his first vet visit to remove the wrapper, and earned the name Chunkers. He also loves squeaky toys, his big bed, walkies, and his 5-gallon water bowl. And his backyard. Super big water bowl plus backyard equals unlimited pee marking. My suspicions of a collapsing trachea were confirmed at his first vet visit, or so we thought, and we could treat him with medications for a long while. In January 2023, he was referred to a specialist in Tulsa to prepare for tracheal Stent surgery to improve his quality of life. To everyone's surprise, they found that his trachea was fine, and he had collapsed bronchial tubes which could not be treated. He was given an estimated one year based on his present state. Over the year he had been getting a little more tired, a little weaker, and had a harder time breathing. Just over a month ago he started to rapidly decline and has difficulty with basic tasks. He still has SO much joy and he's just very much a happy boy. This is the kid that HAD to have his walk even in the 110-degree heat, sleet, and icy snow. He's so friendly and sweet. He knew I was pregnant before I did. He was glued to my side. He grieved just as hard as I did when I miscarried. He LOVES kids. He will see a kiddo fall on a scooter and won't leave her side until they say they're okay. The first couple that adopted him lost out on a truly gentle beautiful soul. Seeing him decline is excruciating. Thankfully his vet Dr. Carlton is able to make him more comfortable and improve his quality of life.

I’m so happy we went to look at Roscoe that day, not only did we take him away from a family who didn’t truly love him or take care of him, but we also got the best dog we could ever ask for. We’re not exactly sure how old he is, we think he’s around 11 years old, the people we got him from didn’t know how old he was, but the vet guessed he was around a year old when we got him in 2012. Everyone who has met him absolutely adores him, he’s the sweetest, gentlest, most amazing dog. Roscoe watched my brother and I grow up, we got Roscoe when I was in second grade, and I’m now a freshman in college. Roscoe has been the only constant thing in our life pretty much forever. He helped my brother and I through the divorce of our parents, he’s lived in 4 different houses, 3 with us, and he helped our family through the death of our grandfather, who loved Roscoe very much. He’s had 7 puppy friends and one kitty friend he loved that he’s helped us through the deaths of. He’s never hurt anyone or any animal (other than the occasional squirrel). Although he’s nearing 12, maybe even 13, he’s still running around like a puppy and still has the same look in his eyes as when we first got him. We will never have another dog like him. We love you so much Roscoe, the best boy ever. Thank you for choosing us to share your life with. Our boy forever."

They can get up to 30lbs! So basically, a medium dog with big ole' ears. So, we went on the hunt for one. We found a lady selling them in Tulsa, and after a few texts, we were on our way. When we got there, we realized we were at a meat farm. My sweet daughter wanted to adopt every single bunny there. But we settled on the sweet boy in the back who loved our snuggles. We got him home, and he quickly became everyone's favorite, including his vet. Everyone is always astonished by his size, and he's treated like a celebrity every time we have to have to go in public. At his largest, he only got to 18lbs, but he has always been the sweetest, most calm boy. He even got a job with a local photographer and played the Easter Bunny for years. Last May (just after his 7th birthday), he was at the groomer getting ready for Easter bunny pictures, and his groomer noticed his testicle didn't look normal. We took him, and they gave us a diagnosis of testicular cancer. He had surgery, and we thought he was healed. Unfortunately, he started having new symptoms, and they said the cancer must have spread. So now he is on medication 2x a day and is slowly losing his mobility, but he hasn't let it get him down. He will still try to stand and get love or come into the kitchen for snacks. (Blueberries, spinach, and the occasional marshmallow are his favorites). So now we will savor the days we have left and love him through every part of his journey. He definitely has a hold on our hearts. We will love you always, Riot."

"In 2017, at the age of six, Leo was surrendered to the shelter in Claremore, Oklahoma. The first six years of his life will most likely remain a mystery to me, but what I do know is that he lived most of those first 6 years on a chain. There were a few times when he got bored & found a way to escape the yard. Once he was free from the chain, he made lunch out of the neighbor’s chickens. Killing those chickens resulted in Leo being dumped at the shelter. Heartland Husky Rescue picked him up & took him into their care. The moment I saw Leo’s picture on their Facebook, I knew he was my dog; this is why I call him my soul dog. - his name with the rescue was Jaqen, that is now his middle name. I applied to be a foster with Heartland because we really weren’t looking for another dog, we already had 3. But once we met him in person that sealed the deal even further. We sent in our adoption application & we were approved to be his forever family. Leo Jaqen Schopfer. When I first brought Leo home, I could tell he didn’t have much exposure to car rides, walking on a leash, toys, or even treats. He didn’t know how to hold a treat & chew on it. I watched my two girls whom I had been with their whole lives, hold a treat with ease but he wasn’t sure how. He caught on quickly though! Leo is such a sweet boy; he is known as the “Grampy” of our local Husky / Malamute & northern breed dog group called MASH. He loves his monthly adventures with his MASH family. Leo is estimated to be 12 now, his (approximate) birthday is 09-07-2011. We know that we likely have more days behind us, than ahead but we will do everything we can to keep him happy & healthy. He suffers from leg tremors & hind-end weakness, which makes it hard for him to do long walks like we used to. He has been to 9 different doctors here in Oklahoma to figure out a diagnosis. He also has arthritis in his hips which has caused him to fall down a few times recently & we know he has a spinal condition called spondylosis. At his most recent visit with an Internal Medicine Specialist, we were told even if we sought out a neurologist, there was only about a 20% chance that we would have any answers for his tremors. When the day comes & he is no longer here to walk this earth, I will be completely shattered. He is my shadow dog, never more than 2 steps behind me, my cuddler, my sweet boy. I cherish every moment, every adventure, every cheek kiss, and every photograph, more than I can put into words. He deserves nothing less & so much more than a life filled with love, adventures & all of the unicorn toys he could ever want.
Thank you so much to Burton Photography LLC for being part of his story & capturing these moments."

"We found Dusty in one of those shopping mall pet stores back in 2008. We'd exhausted all of our options at the local rescues looking for a dog under 20lbs (per our apartment complex's rules) and decided to look in the store just out of curiosity. We didn't feel a connection with any of the tiny, cute little puppies there and started to leave the store. But, in the very corner, near the door on our way out, I spotted Dusty in his crate. He was dirty, matted in his own excrement, and looked extremely defeated. He was much older than the other puppies and marked down in price, as clearly, he was not a "popular" option. From the moment the worker brought Dusty into the meet and greet room I just knew he would be coming home with us. His sad little eyes lit up, then he buried his head in my hands and relaxed. It was love at first sight, for all of us. I truly believe that we rescued him from that deplorable store.
Dusty has been a much-loved member of our family for almost 16 years now and we couldn't imagine our lives without him. We don't know how much time we have left with him, but we treasure every moment for sure!"

I got Dayzie Maye for my 18th birthday. I Had just finished my junior year of high school. She had a companion Diezel. He was a few years older than her. He taught her how to swim and she loved chasing/biting him, and copied everything he did. She had her first litter on 6/18/2011, she had 13 puppies. Her best friend Diezel who was the puppy's father passed away on 7/3/2011. She was broken. She remained a good momma though. She had her second liter the following August 7, 2012. She had ten beautiful blue puppies. She has outlived all of her babies from what I’ve kept in touch with. On January 9, 2023, she became a big sister to her little brother Dayton. He adores her and she always has an eye on him and keeps him company while he plays on the floor. She has lived in Yukon, El Reno, Chandler, Caddo, Shawnee, Henryetta, Coalgate, Chickasha, Pocasset, and Clinton. Everyone who met her loved every bit of her and her sweet gentle soul. In 2018 we moved to Moundsville West Virginia, then to Shadyside Ohio. She went to work with me in the mountains and never missed a beat! From dressing her up every Halloween to just dressing her up in dresses, it never bothered her. She loved to get her nails done and always loved her baths. We always went on adventures, and she stayed right by my side. Anytime I turned around there she was, looking up at me. She has done so many things and has been to so many places. She has been with me my whole adult life. She’s always been there for me, thankfully cause I’ve needed her more than she’s needed me. She’s definitely the best part of me. She’s always been Melo and laid back. Very well behaved and has better manners than most people. Always asks to get on couches even her own, everyday lol. Some may say she’s lazy. I say she’s just preserving her bones lol. I have always wanted more of her attention than she wanted mine. She’s so amazing and I don’t know what I’ll ever do without her. I always say if my love for her could give her more years with me she would outlive me by a million. Momma loves you, Your momma’s best friend in the whole wide world."

Katy was instantly my shape. 3 years later I went through a divorce, there was no way I was leaving without Katy. She has always gone where I went, so she was coming with me then. Katy made the transition bearable. She gave strength and love to me and my boys. When my boys were with their dad, she stayed by my side and eased those difficult nights alone in a new place. Then in 2017, Katy was with me again during my fight against cancer. She stayed with me during those difficult nights of fear and tears, never leaving me. She knew I didn’t feel well and she would stay with me during my recovery from chemo, radiation, and numerous surgeries. Katy was never a super lovey pup, but she never left my side and knew exactly how to show me she loved me. Just knowing she was down by my feet gave such comfort to me. I will never be able to express how much Katy has meant to me over the past 12 years, or thank her for the unconditional love she has given me. During the most difficult of times, Katy shared her love and strength. And during the best of times, Katy was there to celebrate with me. No matter how old I get, she will never be forgotten.”

She is obsessed with walking, even if she is slow. She loves her little big brother who protects her. She spends most of her days in bed with her dad playing video games or watching pets on TV. We decided to keep him after we could not find any owners for him. He was so gentle with our young kids that we knew he would fit in well at home. He was able to gain weight- maybe even a little extra thanks to his love of snacks. He earned himself his longer name of “Jacker Snacker” as there’s not much he won’t eat. He chose me as his person and is my constant shadow when I am home, he doesn’t let me leave a room without him and lets me know when it’s time for bed. We’ve had a comfortable routine for many years. He’s adventurous and enjoys trips to hiking and the lake. He’s been known to take his own adventures for a quick swim or a run and even once a ride in the back of a UPS truck. He has slowed down over the years, but maintains his never-ending loyalty and comfortable companionship.”

When we went to adopt him, we even found out he was on clearance since he had been at the pound for a while and only $25. We decided on the name Neeko for him. He definitely put us to the test the first few months, chewed up EVERYTHING, from furniture to purses to glasses...everything! He also liked to jump the fence and play chase (or at least chase him lol). He would break out of his crate and have horrible separation anxiety. Until one day he got a heart-to-heart talk and he just changed. He became the literal best dog either of us has ever had. So mellow, yet playful, and has great manners. He is now on his 3rd sister since we have had him, losing his last sister was hard on him when she passed unexpectedly as they were together for over 10 years. So we decided to get him a new baby sister, a puppy, so he could show her the way. She may annoy him most days, but he enjoys having her around. The last couple of years his age has definitely started to show as we come to his approximate 14 years on this earth. He has definitely slowed down on everything, getting up, walking, and climbing. But he still manages to greet us with excitement every day when we come home and are excited to go outside, go on car rides, and have dinner."

One day I was about to go buy a Pomeranian from a breeder, I ended up messaging someone I knew with a dog rescue and told them what I was doing. They said stop what you’re doing and give me 15 minutes. They texted me and said a 1-year-old Pomeranian girl had been taken in at a local shelter and they were about to take her into their rescue group. This person knew me well and knew that my senior Pomeranian at the time, Roscoe was extremely well treated, taken care of, and so loved. They told me to go to the shelter to see the Pomeranian girl, and if I was interested they would assist me with adoption. I walked into the shelter, and as soon as the kennel door was open, Disney jumped in my arms. Due to various circumstances, the adoption took a month, but the foster mom sent me pictures and updates while I waited for Disney to come home. Disney became a sister to my senior Pomeranian Roscoe and eventually his seeing-eye dog as he aged and lost his vision. At 20 years old Roscoe passed peacefully in 2017. Shortly after Roscoe had passed someone, who knew that I had fostered dogs before reached out to me. Their grandmother was going into hospice care and they had a Papillion boy who needed a new home. I was hesitant to say I would adopt him, so instead, I said I would foster him and see how things worked out. Having just lost Roscoe months before, I wasn’t sure if I was ready to bring another little soul into my life. But once he came here, he never left and he got a new name, Walt. Walt is now 14 years old and Disney is 9 years old. They are a really funny pair, they bring so much joy and love to my life every day."

He is such a tough guy and was so strong through all of his surgeries to repair his jaw. He’s lived his life to the fullest living up to the husky breed, always escaping the yard, jumping on furniture, and stealing food from the stovetop! He’s stubborn but very loyal and the most handsome husky in the world. Recently, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and the odds were stacked against him. “Teri was adopted by my husband when he thinks she was about a year old. She had been shot in the hind quarters during what they called a hunting “accident”. He trained service dogs and his intention was to train her to be a service dog. But once she was trained, since she had been shot, they would not accept her. So we kept her. According to our calculations that would make her 16-17 yrs old now. She has been the best family dog. She is very low key and always has been. But if you ever threw a ball or a stick, she would fetch it and bring it back. I am convinced she would hang on and never die and just be in pain if we let her. Because she just loves being with us. She has been a service dog for my husband as he was injured in Afghanistan. He recently got a service dog and now since then we can tell Teri is just not getting around like she used to. She still tried to do her tricks when she eats, but just can’t do them anymore. We are heartbroken but I know we are making the right decision.”

“Minka became a Misfit in 2021 when she was 8 weeks old, and found on the side of the road in NE Oklahoma. She was tiny, she was obviously suffering from hydrocephalus, and her finders knew she needed help. Unfortunately for dogs with hydrocephalus their life expectancy is extremely shortened, most only live 1 or 2 years. However, Minka has never been one to conform to rules, and on January 17, 2024 this pretty girl will turn 3. Minka’s favorite place is outside in the sunshine. She has always loved other dogs, she loves toys and bones, but most of all she loves her food! Minka struggles with strong weather fronts, and changes in pressure. These usually trigger seizures, and unsettled behavior from her. In March Minka really started struggling, and since then has been monitored closely with constant adjustments to her meds. In June, it was determined that Minka would enter hospice foster status. Her struggles were too great, and having only known one home her entire life (hydros do not handle any change in routine well), we decided it best that she live out the rest of her days (no matter how long) in the home with the mom and routine she knows and trusts. In August, Minka hit a really hard time and required a week-long hospitalization and MRI. She was started on a new medicine regimen and it was discovered her hydrocephalus actually stemmed back to an old skull fracture that had healed in a way that is putting pressure on certain areas of her brain causing neurological complications, including seizures. Since August Minka has done well until last weekend at which point she started seizing again and was once again admitted for hospitalization. Once again, her meds have been adjusted, unfortunately to the max amounts, and we are taking it day by day with Minka. Every day this girl reminds her foster mom why we fight so hard for these animals. Minka may not be like other dogs, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t lived life to the fullest and happiest extent possible. She has a will to live that far exceeds anything we could ever wish for her and she has zero concept that she is any different than her foster siblings. As the days go on, Minka’s body grows a little more tired, but she’s still enjoying her days and as long as she is happy we will keep fighting alongside her. Medical, special needs, and hospice fostering can be physically and mentally exhausting at times, but animals like Minka make it worth it with the love they give back tenfold. The day will come when we have to say goodbye to Minka, but this girl will live on forever in the hearts of this rescue.”

I was still single at the time and lived alone, so we really bonded at a pivotal time in my life. Soon after I would meet Lauren, we ended up getting Piper a sister, another Boston Terrier named Presley. They have been our babies until we had Rylee 4 years ago. Piper in particular has felt like a first child, and best friend all together. I could not have asked for a more wonderful dog with the most ornery & loving personality. She never met a stranger anywhere we went and just loved people. I am thankful & grateful for the love she has shown me & the parts of me I didn’t know existed before her. We have been through some very painful times & losses together and she has licked away many tears. I’m not sure what I would have done without her truth be told. Dogs have a way of finding you and being exactly what you need. I am so thankful for 13 terrific years & we have been able to give her a wonderful life and will miss her so much. Saying goodbye is about the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do but I’m glad we got to celebrate our girl and will have the photos forever.”

We spent many days eating treats together, taking long drives, and a few unnecessary but anxious trips to the vet. Shortly after adoption, I discovered she was actually 10ish years old. Wowza! Talk about time being taken, so I decided to make the best of my girl’s golden years. More hiking, lake strolls, snuggles, and treats. In December, Kitty girl woke up from a nap and could not stop coughing, and catch her breath. Her sweet little trachea had been tramped upon by old age! One trip to the emergency vet later we got her some medicine, and she’s currently living out her years on doggy hospice. If you know me, you know Kitty. She’s grumpy, she’s got the floppiest of ears, and makes the silliest of screams when happy. She is simultaneously cute, and morally corrupt. She single handedly helped me through grad school, got me out of bed on days when I didn’t think I deserved to, and greeted me with wagging tail on good/bad days. She doesn’t see my flaws, but instead loves them (sleeping on my clean clothes on the floor). She is my best friend, and an equal in this world. I’m not sure how long I’ve got left with her, but for whatever time we have, and have had, I am grateful. Adopt an old dog, folks, you absolutely cannot go wrong.”

We agreed but said we will absolutely not be getting a puppy or dog today. Well, the very first kennel we came in contact with was “the dog of the day”. He happened to be a gorgeous brindle with the happiest tail in the world. We took him to a room to visit but decided to walk around and see all of the dogs. We said hello to every dog in the adoption rooms that day. As we were about to leave, we told the volunteer that we would think about it and maybe come back the next day as we were not prepared to get a dog. We didn’t have a crate, toys, food or dog bed. The volunteer told us that since he was the “dog of the day” it was now or never. The shelter would be closing in 15 minutes and he was next on the “list”. We decided it simply meant that he was supposed to be our boy. Since that day so many years ago, he has been the best boy ever. He has been my son’s emotional support dog and best friend. He was my husband buddy right up until my husband passed away in 2021. And for me? He has been my world. Our home will never be the same without him or the sound of his happy tail. My heart is broken but I find comfort in knowing he can be with his dad in heaven and that he can rest peacefully.”

“I remember the day I got Dusty pretty vividly, it has always been my favorite thing to tell to others. My dad took me to the Ardmore Animal Shelter shortly after I was diagnosed with my chronic heart condition. Before we could even get to the front door of the shelter, I saw a pen in the front yard filled with small puppies. I could see a puppy that was much smaller than the others getting stomped on, so I had my dad help me get him out. I could immediately tell that his tail was crooked from him being stepped on. I took him into my arms and didn’t let him go. My dad asked: Do you want to go inside to look at the other dogs?I said no, I think I found my best friend. I didn’t know that he would end up being my best decision. He has been there for me since day 1, always putting me first and himself second. He shows me love that I won’t ever find from anything but his heart. He’s been my sidekick through all my biggest life challenges. He was there for me when I would get home from school, He’s there for me when I get home from work, He was there after every hospital stay, there for me after heart surgery and healing, for the heartbreaks, the deaths, the good and the bad, I knew Dusty would have just as much love for me each time I come home. To have a love like that is something people dream of. I’m thankful I have it in my best friend. He turned 14 on April 21st, and shortly after that we received the heartbreaking news that he is suffering from bladder cancer. But he is taking it like a champ. He still plays, has energy to go on walks, and still gets way too overwhelmed when anyone has a morsel of food. I would never have it any other way. He has brought me kindness and a light in the world that will forever shine. And even when his journey is no longer here on earth, I will cherish every second I had with him. I can’t thank him enough for loving every form of me and as do I. Dusty, Dust Butt, my sunshine boy, You are always and forever loved by your army of family. Your Momma Manda loves you with her whole heart, as well as Reina, your doggy girlfriend, and me, I can’t imagine life without you, but I will continue to live for you.”

He survived the F5 that came through Moore in May 2013 and the house on 12th street was completed demolished down to the slab and we weren't able to find him for 3 days under the rubble. He's lived a life full of love and adventures. He's traveled to 10 states spanning the entire West coast and has got to see marvels like the Redwoods, The Golden Gate Bridge, Arches National Park and so much more! He's been there for me through all my ups and downs and everything in between. He's shown me what unconditional love is all about. He truly is my soul dog. He just recently celebrated his 14th birthday! Although the black on his head may have turned gray and his eyes have become milky, his playful and young heart and spirit are still the same! We love him so much and look forward to all the years we get to continue to love him!” -Ashton

My mom found them on her morning walk and wanted to take them home before animal control got them, and we ended up pulling away with them in her truck as they pulled up. We ended up finding homes for all of them except for him. Since then, he has lived in Texas, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. His favorite things are food, except orange ones for some reason, and attention. Tuesday June 4th, 2024, I woke up and Clyde couldn’t seen anymore. He was too scared to leave the bedroom, and when he did, he bumped into a wall. I immediately called the vet and they referred me to an emergency vet in Tulsa. Clyde was unfortunately given a very short remaining life span with what the doctors believe is stage 5 lymphoma cancer. He’s fighting through it, and not showing that he’s in any pain. Everyone that meets him instantly falls in love with him, and his personality. He is the kindest, most loving dog who I was lucky to share the last 10 years with. It was an honor to share a birthday with you and I’m going to miss you more than I can bear. You’ll always be in my heart and on my mind. I’ll love you forever, Clyde.”

Milo Ray- my love, and ray of sunshine! AKA Mr. man has traveled through so many different states. He loves plushy blankets but more specifically my blankets. His favorite part of the day is breakfast when he gets two eggs mixed in with his food. The days we’re out of eggs, he gets an attitude. I’ve spoiled him rotten but that’s exactly how every dog should live every second. I’m so blessed to spend this life with him in it.”

We were moving back to Oklahoma from New York and stopped at a Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO, to stretch our legs. While there, my mom noticed a lady with a schnauzer in her basket and asked where she got her dog. The lady gave us the address of a local breeder nearby, so we decided to check it out to see if there were any puppies available. When we got to the breeder's place, the woman who owned the puppies was sitting on her porch swing, almost as if she were expecting us. We asked if she had any schnauzers left, and she said there was one more. Inside, we found this 4-month-old puppy waiting for his new family. From that moment on, Thunder became a part of my life unexpectedly. We found each other at a time when we both needed companionship the most. He quickly became my best friend during my childhood, and we've shared so many life experiences together. I can't express enough how much love I have for him, and there will never be enough time for me to show him how much he means to me. I will always be thankful that Thunder came into my life, and I believe he feels the same way.”

He knew that his purpose was to protect me, and that’s exactly what he did. He’d always lay by my side and never took his eyes off of me. He was my best friend as I was his. As his 10th birthday was coming up, we began to notice drastic changes in his health and behavior. He wasn’t as active as he used to be, and eventually he couldn’t control his body. He couldn’t eat or drink, and if he did he couldn’t keep it down. We were cleaning up messes every day, but still showed him the same love as we always did. We knew that his time was coming and that he was in a lot of pain, so my dad did the best thing for him and took him to get euthanized. I was 13 at this time, and my truck was the vehicle he took. It was hard enough for my dad to get him in the truck, let alone out of it. They had no choice but to euthanize him in the backseat. Ever since the truck became mine, I could feel his spirit as if he’s a part of it now. I know that he’s continuing to do his job and protect me as a backseat driver. I’m now 18 and still missing him. It’s been almost 6 years since I lost my dog, my childhood, my best friend. And I miss him more and more every day. It’s safe to say that it’s traumatizing losing a pet, especially one you grew up with. The pain never goes away, but it does get easier. We don’t deserve dogs, so please enjoy your time with them while it lasts. And when that time runs out, just remember the good times you spent together. That’s what gets you through it.”

She recently went to the vet for a cough and we discovered that she has cancer and fluid building up in her lungs, restricting her breathing. The vet is unable to treat her and gave us a few days to say goodbye before she is to be put to sleep. These last pictures of us together mean the world to me, as she will always be in my heart. He can be spicy but so loving once you’ve earned it. From the moment I picked him up, I knew we would have something special, a connection that can’t be described with words. He loved me unconditionally, was my co-pilot, my backpack buddy, and most of all my doggie soul mate. I couldn’t have asked for a better first pup, I love you cricket and will cherish 11 years of memories together.”

I've met so many friends over the years, all kinds of animals! I'm a very good boy with other animals. And I love to make new friends. I grew up with six other dogs, as well as my mums six cats and small zoo of exotic, or furry animals. I was my mums loyal service dog for most of my life. I took her places she couldn't go alone. I am after all her guardian angel. My mum wanted to take me to the grand canyon before I passed, but sadly I won't make it. So my mum is going to spread some of my ashes there for me. She tells me I am a very special boy who will be missed by many. I have so many friends, but my body is slowing down. My mind is becoming clouded, but I know my mum loves me all the same. My favorite food is rabbit, but what I love above all is my ball! I will do anything for my ball. I would retrieve it till I can't no more. My mum has to tell me to slow down now! I make myself hurt sometimes, but that's why mum gives me medicine for it now.
Draven. I love you more than I can put to words. You're my angel, and my guardian. I did so many things that I would never have done thanks to you. You saved my life so many times. You made me strong, and I'm scared I’ll lose that without you. I'm not the perfect owner, but I love you so much.”

We had walked around the entire place viewing all of the dogs, and didn’t connect with any of them on sight. We were about to give up and try another day when we saw an employee walking this brindle pitt. Wendy had stopped and talked to them, and found out she had just came off her intake hold and was now adoptable. We took her to a room and she was so gentle, and sweet. She was very shy at the time, and I knew we had to take her home. She has since been raised with my oldest, and has been her best friend the entire time. She has also helped with raising the younger one many years later. She has always been such a good dog despite not being a fan of other female dogs. Her crate mate is Buddy, and they are pretty inseparable. They are often seen laying on the couch together. She was diagnosed with nasal cancer three years ago after we started noticing some abnormalities with her eyes and nose. I didn’t think she would’ve made it this long, but now I think she has just done it out of spite. She has been the best dog, and I have loved giving her the best life.”

“Okie and I met eyes for the first time at an adoption event organized by The Bella Foundation in March 2012. He was the cutest and most clumsy Jack Russel of the litter and kept wondering off curious so I reached out to pick him up and he came without hesitation. Soft and cuddly he was mostly fawn but with a white spot on top of his neck, white paws and white belly, it looked like he got dipped in white paint. He wanted to go explore the store with me and I immediately knew I had to adopt and brought him home with me.
Within 2 months he was twice the size of his mom and I knew that I was in for twice as much than I sign up for as he became my crazy hyper mutt buddy that needed 2-3 walks a day and would sure need a backyard. Okie was my first fur baby that I got to raise on my own as I grew up in Brasil with German Shepherds and a Toy Poodle when my dad was the main caregiver. I vowed to be the best owner I could be for him and would do whatever I could to get him to thrive.
Okie went through Puppy Obedience Training then was with me purchasing my (our) first house. He approved Alex as his dad and Boston as my son plus Zeus and Duke as his brothers. He was there for the birth of both our daughters Devon and Ellie as protective as he could be. He enjoyed Aunt Sandra walking countless miles with him and his buddy Spike this last few years as she became our faithful caregiver who loved him as one of her own.
Okie made us very worried when the gate was left open or when he started digging his way out to go exploring the next neighborhoods or maybe 6 miles away. He would always stop to be pet and that’s when I got the relieving calls about my lost pet that would put my heart at ease. Or he would just come back on his own when it’s time for dinner. He definitely lived as if someone left the gate open!!
Best Kisser Ever awarded by our whole family and friends, he had the sweetest nose and a beautiful wagging curly tail. Loved chasing squirrels and bunnies, walks down the neighborhood, dog parks, Lake Thunderbird, fetching frisbees and tennis balls. We experimented with all the chew toys in the world as he destroyed most of them in a day or a week. His snuggles were the best and he always preferred sleeping under the blankets.
Okie was born January 1st 2012 and he crossed the rainbow bridge November 15th 2024 in the peace of our backyard surrounded by his family and even a B-52 flying over him. He left a footprint in my heart and I’m forever grateful for his unconditional love. He may be physically gone now but when I think of him… just smiles and memories that will forever be engraved in my heart.”

He got his neediness from his Shepard side & his smarts from the hound in him! We always joke that he’s a human zipped up in a dog suit. He’s always kept us on our toes. Bunker was loud & mischievous but so very sweet and kept us all laughing. When he knew he did something wrong he would squint his eyes and smile. It was hard to stay mad at him when he did that! He was our bubble child, always in and out of the vet. He’s had two masses removed that were not cancerous. Over the summer we noticed he had a bump in his nose. After many tests and a trip to the specialist it was determined to be nasal cancer. We were given the option of radiation but it would never go away, just keep it from progressing a few months. We made the heart breaking decision to let him go when he’s still our happy, funny, crazy, talkative, sweet Bunker boy. We did not want to put him through radiation and risk his last few months with us to be painful. I can’t imagine life without him, he’s been in our lives since we were in our early 20s, newlyweds, figuring out life. He was there when we brought all of his fur siblings home. He was there when we brought our son home. Our hearts will never be the same. Every single night as we laid down to go to sleep he would give us a “Bunker hug”. I will forever miss those hugs. I will forever miss my blue eyed boy. 💔 He gave us an amazing 9 years and I can only hope he feels we have given him an amazing life and that he felt how endlessly we love him.”

We really had no intentions of bringing home a puppy that day, but once we saw her, it was an instant connection. She was the most timid of her siblings, but her personality came out once we brought her home. She was our first “baby”, and have had her for 11 years. She loves car rides, greeting you with her toy, deep tissue massages, and pup cups. She has been there for us during so many life events over the years. She was there to welcome our first born 8 years later after adopting her, and now they are best friends. We are hoping she is still here to welcome our second baby in January. Sadly, Zoey was diagnosed with bladder cancer in September, and we’ve been cherishing her every day since. She has truly been the best dog we could’ve ever asked for, and the joy she has brought to our lives could never be matched.”

His owners found out they were expecting a new baby, and were in search of a new home for him. We met him, and fell in love immediately. He had trouble keeping weight on, and it took us quite awhile to get him healthy due to his medical conditions. I work for the Oklahoma Human Society, and I foster a lot of different animals. Sorin is always the first dog I introduce fosters to because he is so good with everyone. He loves kittens and cats. He will lay patiently waiting for them to come up to him. I'm always finding fosters, and our other pets curled up cuddling with him. He makes the foster animals feel comfotable in a new and unfamiliar environment. He plays great with dogs of every size. 6 Years ago he started showing signs of arthritis and has been on pain management, supplements, etc, and ever since. We feel so lucky to have gotten as long with him as we have. He has a huge personality. He insists on being covered up with a blanket when he's cold, and on having a pillow when he goes to bed each night. He loves comfort and cozy things more than any dog I've ever met."

She quickly became an important family member with her mom, my daughter, and her grandma (me). Tulip has always loved being a free roam bunny and loves to explore her surroundings. She loves snow, treats, and being her sassy independent self. She only wants kisses and cuddles when she wants them, usually in the middle of the night when she breaks out of her bed. Her favorite things are to eat treats, cilantro and bananas top her list. She developed a crusty eye on Monday, and we made her a vet appointment Wednesday. At that visit after doing testing and X-rays we found out she has an abscess in her mouth/jaw that is moving into her eye. Surgery isn't an option so we are trying to celebrate her as much as possible while she is still with us. I hope these photos can bring peace to my daughter whenever the time comes.”

“We adopted Buddy from the animal shelter when he was 10 years old. We had originally taken him out for a flash foster day with no intention of adopting, but we fell in love with him so fast. When we took him back to the shelter at the end of that day we both were so sad. It was only 4 days, and I found myself back at the shelter to take Buddy out for another “flash foster”. But after only an hour I was calling my now husband, Stephen, and asking if we could adopt him to which he quickly agreed. It was one of the easiest decisions we’ve ever made to take Buddy in and love him for however long we were blessed to have him. When we adopted him we were told he had kidney disease, possible diabetes, and that he was blind. Only the kidney disease turned out to be true and after getting prescription food and a joint supplement he turned from an old couch potato into a running and playful dog. He loves to go on walks, and play with Stephen. Stephen and Buddy quickly became best friends and they’ve cuddled together every day since. At first we thought we’d be lucky just to have him for a year. That year has now turned into almost 4. In those 4 years we’ve shared laughter, lots of playing, two moves, our wedding, and so much more. Buddy has a very strong personality, and is very vocal. He likes to wreak havoc all hours of the day and torment his younger sister. Buddy is ornery, loud, and stinky and we wouldn’t have him any other way. We love everything about him, even the stinky parts. Now we are less than 2 weeks away from sending him to rest over the rainbow bridge and I truly believe that Buddy’s unplanned adoption was no accident. He came into our lives right when we needed him and he’s given us an amazing almost 4 years.”

“Rory came into my life nearly 11 years ago, when he was just 6 months old and I was 21. I had been looking for a companion at the Oklahoma humane society for about a month with no luck. One cold December day, I made another trip to the shelter, not expecting much but still hoping to make a connection. After playing with a few puppies, I was putting the last one back in his kennel when I noticed Rory’s information sheet. There was a picture of him, and something about it just clicked—I knew I had to meet him. I searched through the kennels until I found him. He was incredibly skinny and scared. His sheet said he had been found wandering the streets of OKC, but there was no other information. His past was a mystery, but when I looked into his eyes, I saw a future. They were bright, full of hope, and I knew we had a chance. As I led him to the playroom, I could see how terrified he was of everything around him. But once we were inside, we both seemed to relax. I had a tennis ball in my hand that I had dropped to get him into the room. Rory immediately went after it, brought it back to me, and we played fetch for a while. He was just the cutest thing I had ever seen—one ear pointed up, the other down. I thought it was just a puppy thing, that he would grow out of it. But to this day, his ears remain just like that—up and down, and I love it. We spent nearly an hour in the playroom, and by the end of it, I was completely in love with him. I sat down on the floor to get a better look at him, and without hesitation, he climbed into my lap, resting his head against my shoulder. That was it. I knew he was my boy in that very moment, and we’ve been together ever since. The 10 years I’ve had the privilege of being Rory’s mom have been filled with ups and downs. We've moved several times and shared many major life experiences, but through it all, he’s remained loyal and loving. He’s not just my pet—he’s my best friend and soul dog. Every day, I feel a piece of my heart beat within him. In March of 2024, Rory was diagnosed with cancer, and we were told we didn’t have much time left with him. We decided to make the most of the time we had, giving him the very best couple of months he had left. And here we are, 11 months later. He’s so strong and, definitely more spoiled. I feel so lucky and grateful for this extra time. I can't even express how honored I am to share these moments with him. Since his diagnosis, we've had many more adventures. He was even part of my engagement, tangling the leash around my husband and me while I said yes. When the time comes for Rory to pass, I know the most important thing for him would be for me to take care of myself. I am his very favorite thing in the world—besides maybe soccer balls and swimming—and I want to honor him by using all the love and effort I put into caring for him to focus on myself, as he would want me to. I love you forever and ever Rory, thank you for taking care of me while I did my very best to take care of you.”

“We found Rudy in August of 2011. With a 6 month old puppy already at home, Tyler decided he wanted to add another pup to our family. When he turned the corner at the shelter and saw a kennel packed with a litter of 10 Rottweiler/German Shepherd puppies, he locked eyes with Rudy and immediately knew she was his. She was the biggest in her litter, and so fluffy she was basically a teddy bear. We brought her home the same day. She was an absolute joy to watch growing up. Smart as a whip, just the right amount of devious, and she LOVED to snuggle. Often we would find her with her whole face in one of Tyler’s shoes - she didn’t eat them (usually) but she found comfort in them. Quickly we realized that she thought she was the same size as our older pup, who was significantly smaller, so Rudy remained a lap dog for years. She would sleep between our legs on the bed, and loved playing chase in the house with our other dog. Though she was a total love bug with us and our friends, her strength and protective qualities shone through when we needed her. Once, someone tried to break into our apartment, Rudy quickly convinced the would-be intruder that was the wrong choice and ours was the wrong house. When we had kids, Rudy moved from sleeping in our bed to sleeping outside our kids rooms, or in their bed if we would let her. She was fiercely protective of them and so, so patient, even when kids were using her to pull up to stand or playing bongos on her back, she loved every second of it and was always by the kids side. She’s been everything we could have ever asked for. In recent months her mobility has started to decline, and we know we have more days behind us than we do ahead of us, but while she might not be able to jump on the bed or snuggle on the couch with us anymore, she’s still our Rudy Bear, and we’re thankful for every day we have her in our lives.”

Her unwavering love and comfort she brings has been an anchor through every single change and challenge. She's never been just a pet to me, she's our family and she truly has shared all of our best moments with us. I can’t imagine a day that comes and she’s not a part of it, but unfortunately I know that day will come and I will forever be grateful to have these pictures that will be a constant reminder of the love we’ve shared for all of her days.”

He's quick to bite and asks questions later, despite that, everyone he meets falls in love with him. Being a wiener dog, Victor has come by back problems naturally. He takes a monthly arthritis injection, and has 2 prescription pain meds to take as well. Victor does not let his pain slow him down. He's a strong boy that refuses to believe he's old.”

“When we got Ollie in 2010 we wanted him to have a little sister. Two years later we decided it was the right time for that to happen. We named her Bella! The couple that owned Ollie's parents were no longer breeding their pugs after the last litter that they had. Their was a woman that wasn't sure she could keep the last little girl puppy. I was afraid we wouldn't get her, but we did! She was so tiny, and she weighed 6oz! I was afraid she was not going to make it. She could get so relaxed that you have to check her to make sure she was okay. I would carry her in my purse. She still gets that relaxed! I think that she thought she was a Rottweiler! So vicious for a tiny little girl. No dog or cat no matter how big or small, should ever try to sneak her food or snacks. They will instantly regret it! Her brother knew it was all hot air. He loved her, and was a complete gentleman with her. She has always been full of spit and vinegar, sugar, and spice! LOL! She's our little princess! She loved Keaton instantly. He was her buddy, and she loved playing with him. In the fall of 2015 she injured her eye, and had to have surgery. She's has allergies, and scratches a lot. She can no longer see or hear very well, but she knows how to find us with her nose. She’s a sweet, ornery, needy little girl and we love her tremendously.”

“Millie Lou was the best girl ever. From the moment we got her she was the most loving, ball catching, crazy girl. We cherished every moment that we had with her, from her snoring to her cuddles and love. Every time coming home she would snort and run to find her ball to show off for anyone. She lived the best life ever. On Monday, March 31st 2025 she had jumped off our bed and hurt herself. We ran her to the urgent vet to get her checked out and she was diagnosed with IVDD. She was on crate rest and several meds to help keep her pain free and comfortable. On Thursday, April 3rd we took her to her primary vet to get a second opinion as she was starting to seem worse. They took some x-rays and we were told not good news. She had developed arthritis in her neck some time ago and it was causing bridging/ fusing in her cervical spine. When she jumped off the bed it caused 3 of her disks to completely rupture causing the 3 surrounding bones to all crash together. At that point we learned that there was nothing further that we could do besides keep her comfortable. Our hearts our breaking losing our sweet girl but we know she is now at peace and completely pain-free. April 5, 2025 she went to rest with a belly full of pup cups, yummy treats, and some chocolate for the road. She was so loved by everyone who ever met her. We love you forever and always Millie Lou, you were the biggest blessing in our lives.”

Frank grew up on a small farm in NW ok with my family. He has been with me through all major life events from a first breakup, the death of my mother, and to graduating college. Frank loves to chase bugs, go on walks, squeaky toys, and chicken. Frank has had a couple bouts with IVDD in his older age. Lately I can tell Frank is slowing down, sleeping a bit more, and has developed mobility issues. I want to capture my attachment with my soul dog while I still can, and honor the biggest blessing in my life, Franklyn Joseph Nickel.” -Jona Nickel
